Counseling for College Admission

Philosophy

Someone once told me that your education is one of the few things you pay for in life that increases in value the longer you have it. Choosing a college and major is a decision not to be taken lightly and it’s certainly not an easy process to go through. When a family entrusts Pave the Way Consulting, LLC with guiding them through the search and application process, they will know their journey is highly individualized based on the needs of the student and what the family can afford.

Why Use a Private College Counselor?

My goal is to offer tailored college admissions guidance to high school and transfer students who require a level of support beyond what traditional school counselors may be able to provide.

  • There are over 4,000 colleges in the United States alone
  • The current student-to-counselor ratio in U.S. public schools is nearly 500 to 1
  • Students receive an average of 38 minutes of one-on-one college counseling during their 4 years in high school
  • College costs have skyrocketed over the past 20 years. Independent Educational Consultants (IECs) like Katheryn are "students of colleges" and, as such, can find great fit colleges that also fit budgets
  • Finally, a private counselor can help students one-on-one to navigate the complicated college application and selection journey.

Ethical Guidelines

As a professional Independent Education Consultant, I am a member of:

  • The Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA), an international professional association representing experienced independent educational consultants,
  • The Western Association for College Admissions Counseling (WACAC), and
  • IEC certificate program at UC Irvine

Associating with these entities requires adherence to Principals of Good Practice that include a code of ethics around competency, working with students and families, potential conflicts of interest, relationships with colleges and admissions offices, relationships with other college counselors, advertising and public statements.
